Working in someone’s home

Staff clock in here, but residents live here, and that changes how a cleaning crew should behave. Our people move through the building at an easy pace, greet residents, keep carts tucked against the wall and leave a hallway open whenever someone is walking it. Loud equipment waits for the hours when the common rooms are empty.

The schedule is built from your community’s own calendar: breakfast, lunch and dinner seatings, the exercise class, the afternoon program, family visiting hours and the quiet hours at night. Each area is cleaned in the gap that suits it best.

Dining rooms between seatings

The dining room fills up three times a day, so the crew works in the windows between meals. Tables and chairs are wiped, including the chair arms residents lean on when they sit down and stand up. Crumbs come out of upholstered seats, the beverage station and buffet counter get wiped, and the tile beneath the tables is cleared and damp-mopped in time for the next seating. Napkin and condiment stations are tidied too.

Carpeted dining rooms get spot treatment for spills between scheduled carpet extractions, which keeps the room presentable for a family lunch or a holiday meal.

Hallways, handrails and elevators

Long corridors are the main streets of a senior building. Handrails are wiped along their full length on both sides, and so are the elevator buttons, cab rails and the push plates on fire doors. Picture frames, ledges and the chairs set in hallway alcoves are dusted, and the corridor carpet gets a full-width vacuuming. Nameplates and decorations beside apartment doors are dusted gently and left where residents hung them.

On hard floors, the crew mops one half of the corridor at a time, puts out wet-floor signs and lets that half dry before starting on the other, so residents always have a dry path to walk.

Visiting families walk in past the front desk, so that first room has to look cared for. The crew vacuums the walk-off mats and the floor beneath them, wipes the glass entry doors and sidelights at hand and wheelchair height, dusts the furniture by the front desk and cleans the mailroom counters and parcel shelves. Seating near the entrance, where residents wait for rides and visitors, is wiped down arm by arm.

Lounges, activity rooms and the salon

The library, the card room, the craft room, the theater and the chapel each get a routine of their own. Game tables and craft counters are cleaned, upholstered chairs and sofas are vacuumed, bookshelves and television stands are dusted, and the floors are cared for to suit their surface. In the salon, stations, sinks and the floor around the chairs are cleaned, and the fitness room’s machines and mats are wiped down. A puzzle in progress on the card table stays exactly as it was left.

Front desk counters, the leasing and marketing offices, the staff break room and the shared restrooms are on the same route, with paper, soap and liners refilled from the stock your community keeps or from supplies we provide.

Deeper floor care for shared spaces

Floors in the shared spaces need deeper work a few times a year. Through our commercial floor care, vinyl tile corridors are stripped and refinished, stone entries are polished, and carpet in lounges and hallways gets deep extraction. After a remodel of the dining room or a wing, post-construction cleaning clears the dust before residents return.

Courtyards, entries and the grounds

Outdoor spaces are part of the community too. Pressure washing keeps the courtyard pavers, garden paths, the porte-cochere and the front walk clear of grime and stains, and landscape maintenance keeps the lawns, shrubs and planting beds neat for residents and their visitors.

Senior communities in and around Oakland

Senior living in Oakland takes several forms. There are mid-rise buildings with an elevator core and a dining room off the lobby, garden-style communities spread across low buildings and courtyards, and independent-living apartments where residents share a lounge, a library and a few activity rooms. Every cleaner sent into your community is background checked, and a supervisor walks the building on quality inspections to keep the work consistent month after month.

Show us the community on a walkthrough with your executive director or facilities lead, and we will put together a cleaning calendar and written quote that fit the way your residents live.

A few useful answers

Common questions.

Can cleaning be scheduled around mealtimes and activities?

Yes. The dining room is cleaned between seatings, and lounges and activity rooms are done when they are empty, following the calendar your community sets.

Will residents still be able to use the hallways during cleaning?

Yes. Only half of a corridor is wet at any moment. The crew sets out signs, waits for that half to dry, then moves to the other side.

Do you clean the salon and fitness room?

Yes. Salon stations, sinks and the floor around the chairs are cleaned, and the fitness machines and mats are wiped down on the same visits.

Are the cleaners background checked before working in our community?

Yes. No one joins the crew at your community without clearing a background check first.

Can you also handle the courtyards and front walk?

Yes. Pressure washing and landscape maintenance can be added for courtyards, garden paths, entries and planting beds, each on its own schedule.
